Evolving Subscriber Needs Drives Foundation
Water Research Foundation: What have been your
priorities since joining WaterRF?
Jill Thiare: I joined the Foundation in 2011 with the
mandate to enhance the way the Foundation shares its
research knowledge. Our subscribers’ needs continue
to evolve and we are committed to diversifying how we
package and present our research results and resources
to meet their changing needs and expectations.
Additionally, our subscribers have told us that they want
us to become the go-to source for drinking water research
information. Achieving these goals involves a combination
of improving the functionality of existing resources, such
as our Website, and developing new communications
resources, such as our soon-to-debut Knowledge Portals.
What can we expect from the Foundation’s new
Website and when will it launch?
user-friendly design, the
new Website will offer:
• improved search
easier to find reports and other resources,
• synthesized, topic-specific information that is
especially useful for utility executives who need to
share complex information with their governing bodies
• opportunities for subscriber collaboration to promote
professional networking and best-practice sharing,
• more information that is useful to key non-subscriber
audiences (e.g., the media and utility customers),
• a Foundation blog and links to the Foundation’s new
social media accounts, and
• online proposal submission capabilities.
In this day and age, it’s common knowledge that an
organization’s Website can
be, and usually is, its most
important communications tool.
While our Website has always
provided an extensive collection
of valuable information, it
wasn’t always easy for our users
to find what they were looking
for. It didn’t take me long to
realize that making significant
improvements to our Website’s
structure and navigation would
be instrumental in meeting our
larger communications goals.
The Website overhaul has
been quite an undertaking,
but we are very happy about
how it’s coming together and
are excited for its launch this
